Search to see what Stout owns in the way of books, e-books, media, or Stout theses.  If not owned by Stout, expand to searching UW System Libraries.  For those not owned by Stout or UW System libraries, expand your search to other libraries.

Limiting Searches to Specific Media in the Stout Library Catalog

Use Search@UW to identify and locate books and media (books on tape or CD, videos, music CDs, DVDs) for many topics. Search for a specific author or title by conducting an "Author" or "Title" search.  Keyword and subject searching are available, as well. 

Special media searches are available by first selecting the ADVANCED search tab, then choosing from the Media drop down menu.

Searching for Popular Movies Using the Stout Library Catalog

  • Sample search for movies in video format; use these keywords:

    • videorecording [all of these] AND
    • feature film? [as a phrase]
    • Further refine your search by entering a title, author or subject in the third search box 
  • Sample search for movies in DVD format; use these keywords:

    • DVD [all of these] AND
    • feature film? [as a phrase]
    • Further refine your search by entering a title, author or subject in the third search box.

Searching for Music CDs Using the Stout Library Catalog

To search for music CDs, use the ADVANCED search tab.

  • Enter your keywords in the appropriate search boxes.
  • From the Media drop down menu, select Musical Recording

Sample search for musical CD's; use these keywords:

  • compact disc [as a phrase]
  • Select Media: Musical Recording
  • Further refine your search by entering a title, singer or subject in the second search box.

Searching for Audiobooks Using the Stout Library Catalog

Audiobooks, also called books on tape, are available in both cassette and CD formats.  If you desire a special format, you will need to do separate searches.  Use the following search techniques to narrow to a specific format.  Using the ADVANCED search tab:

  • Sample search for audiobook on cassette; use these keywords:

    • audiobooks [all of these] AND
    • sound cassette? [as a phrase]
    • Further refine your search by entering a title, author or subject in the third search box.
  • Sample search for audiobook on CD; use these keywords:

    • audiobooks [all of these] AND
    • sound disc? [as a phrase]
    • Further refine your search by entering a title, author or subject in the third search box.
