Seaching for a UW-Stout Thesis

The University Library maintains a collection of theses written by UW-Stout masters degree candidates. Included are Plan A's, Plan B's and Educational Specialists theses. Theses can be searched, identified, and located via the Stout Library Catalog

  1. From the Library Home Page, select Stout Library Catalog.
  2. On the Basic search tab, enter your keywords
  3. Then Limit to: Thesis (from the pull-down menu).
 

Limiting A Thesis Search in the Stout Library Catalog

To search for a thesis by:
        Date: Enter the year as a keyword, e.g. 2008
Type:

 

    Plan A: Type PlanA as a keyword (No spaces between)
    Plan B: Type PlanB as a keyword (No spaces between)
    Ed  Specialist:           Type Ed. Spec as a keyword (Needs a space between)
Author: Enter author's last name as a keyword. If it is a common name, also enter the first name in this order,
e.g. Smith Josephine. (last name first)
Advisor: Enter the Advisor's name, e.g. Hector Cruz. (No need to enter last name first)
Topic: Enter keywords and/or key phrases, e.g. technology education, suicide prevention, substance abuse, etc.
Program: Enter program name + the word PROGRAM "as a phrase" from the pull-down box. e.g. Risk Conrol Program, Mental Health Counseling Program.
 

Locating the Thesis

Identify the date of the thesis in the Catalog record to determine access to it:
From 1998 to present Theses submitted from 1998 on are available full-text on the web by a link in the Stout Library Catalog. [See note below]
1. Click on the title in the results list. The title will include the phrase [computer file].
2. Click on: Online version. This will initiate downloading the document in PDF format.

 

     Prior to Dec.1999 Theses submitted prior to December 1999 are on microfiche located in cabinets in the library's Reference Area.
1. Look at the bibliographic record to identify the call number
2. Go to the Reference Area microfiche cabinets.

 

NOTE: Your computer must have Adobe Reader to view the full-text PDF documents. Library workstations already have it installed. If you are working from a computer that does not have Adobe Reader, you must have it installed to view the documents.
