LINKING ARTICLES & FILMS IN D2L

Linking to an EBSCO Article

For EBSCO databases (e.g., Academic Search Complete, America: History & Life, Art Source, Business Source Premier, CINAHL, Communication & Mass Media Complete, ERIC, PsycINFO, and many more):

1. Find the citation to the article you want to include in your D2L course.

2. Click on Permalink on the right-side menu.

 

3.  Copy and paste the Permalink URL into your D2L course. This link will direct students to the article from on and off-campus.

Linking to a JSTOR Article

For JSTOR:

1. From your list of search results, click on the title of the article.

2. Copy the Stable URL.

3. Add the UW-Stout Library proxy server URL to the FRONT of the JSTOR Stable URL:

http://ezproxy.lib.uwstout.edu/login?url=    +     Stable URL from JSTOR

 

4. The link to the JSTOR article should look similar to this example. Copy and paste it into your D2L course. This will direct students to the article from on and off-campus.

Linking to a LexisNexis Article

For LexisNexis:

1. Find the article you want to link to from your D2L course.

2. Click on the Copy Document Link icon.

 

3. Right-click (PC) or Ctrl+click (Mac) on the article title to copy the URL.

4. Here's an example of the URL from LexisNexis:

http://www.lexisnexis.com/lnacui2api/api/version1/getDocCui?lni=5891-1VY1-JC8H-M19C&csi=7945&hl=t&hv=t&hnsd=f&hns=t&hgn=t&oc=00240&perma=true

 

5. Add the UW-Stout Library proxy server URL to the FRONT of the LexisNexis URL:

http://ezproxy.lib.uwstout.edu/login?url=     +     LexisNexisURL

 

6. The link to the LexisNexis article should look similar to this example. Copy and paste the URL into your D2L course. This will direct students to the article from on and off-campus.

Linking to a Project Muse Article

For Project Muse:

1. When searching, click on the article title you want to link to from your D2L course.

 

2. Project Muse uses all stable URLs. You can copy & paste the URL from your browser's address bar.

 

3. Add the UW-Stout Library proxy server URL to the FRONT of the Project Muse URL:

http://ezproxy.lib.uwstout.edu/login?url=     +     Project Muse URL

 

4. The link to the Project Muse article should look like similar to this example. Copy and paste the URL into your D2L course. This will direct students to the article from on and off-campus.

Linking to a ProQuest Article

For ProQuest databases (e.g., ABI/INFORM, Sociological Abstracts, Social Work Abstracts, and more):

1. Find the citation to the article you want to include in your D2L course.

2. Scroll to the bottom of the citation.

3. Copy and paste the Document URL into your D2L course. This will direct students to the article from on and off-campus.

Linking to a SAGE Journals Article

For SAGE Journals:

1. From the citation page for the article you want to link to from your D2L course, you can copy and paste the URL from your browser's address bar. 

 

2. Add the UW-Stout Library proxy server URL to the FRONT of the SAGE Journals URL:

http://ezproxy.lib.uwstout.edu/login?url=   +     SAGE Journals URL

 

3. The link to the SAGE Journals article should look similar to this example. Copy and paste the URL into your D2L course. This will direct students to the article from on and off-campus.

Linking to Wiley Online LIbrary

For Wiley Online:

1. Find the citation to the article you want to link to from your D2L course.

2. Right click (PC) or Ctrl+click (Mac) and copy the URL or the shortcut for either the HTML or PDFarticle.

 

3. Here is an example of a URL from Wiley Online:

 

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1466-8238.2006.00261.x/full 

 

4. Add the UW-Stout Library proxy server URL to the FRONT of the Wiley Online URL:

http://ezproxy.lib.uwstout.edu/login?url=     +     Wiley Online URL

 

5. The link to the Wiley Online article should look similar to this example. Copy and paste the URL into your D2L course. This will direct students to the article from on and off-campus.

  • If you do not see an example for the database that you need to use listed here, contact the library: Go to our Ask-a-Librarian page to get assistance.
  • Do not copy and paste the URL in your browser's web address bar unless directed to do so in the information presented on this page.
  • To allow off-campus users to view content, most links will require the UW-Stout Library proxy server URL as part of the link you send to students. The info for each of the databases/providers explains how to do this.
