Levels of Headings

Below are examples of the four most commonly used levels of headings in a Stout thesis. The chapter headings are always the first level heading. See the Research Paper Template for the lay-out.

Chapter I: Introduction

    [Level #1 - Centered, Boldface, Uppercase & Lowercase Heading] 

Definition of Terms

[Level #2 - Flush Left, Boldface, Uppercase & Lowercase Heading]

   Terms and their definition.

                [Level #3 - Indented, boldface, lowercase paragraph heading ending with a period]

   Definition of leadership.

                 [Level #4 - Indented, boldface, italicized, lowercase paragraph heading ending with a period]
