Note for UW-Stout Thesis/Dissertation Writers

All information in this guide is based upon the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition, also commonly known as The APA Manual.  The APA manual "presents explicit style requirements but acknowledges that alternatives are sometimes necessary; authors should balance the rules of the Publication Manual with good judgement."  Thus, the graduate school can preempt APA style rules.

The Research Paper Template, produced by the Graduate School, is considered "The Bible" for thesis formatting. The template is occasionally revised. Be sure to check the Graduate School Website for the most recent edition.

REMINDER: if you notice discrepancies between the manual and the template, follow the template!

Be sure to consult the Research Paper Reference Guide for Office 365 for formatting tips.
